Retired Research Chemist. Retired Woodworking instructor, although I still lecture, demo and teach woodworking for individuals or small groups. I, like so many others entered computers through PC's and used a simple 2D program for several years. It was free (even the pro version was less than $50) and relatively easy to use. I started drafting in High School in 1951 on paper, and have a book of woodworking projects on paper, so I am comfortable working in 2D. Recently through a combination of several negative events, primarily a long and painful virus infection on my PC, led me to move to an Apple Mac Air and iMac desktop. My old 2D program would not work on OS X so I started researching free / low cost CAD programs. I was open to 3D and have done limited work in Sketchup, but decided against it for several reasons (too much to describe here). Of the many 2D options available, I chose LibreCAD. It seems to be close to my PC based program so my learning curve should be easier and it actually seems better! My needs are simple and my funds are limited, so here I go............
