Born in Springfield, Missouri. Moved to E.St.Louis, Ill. Joined USN at seventeen. Attended Engineman (class A) School after boot camp.
Sent to Submarine school at New London, CT as a volunteer.(All submariners are volunteers in the United States Navy)

After 12 years became a civilian and worked as a machinist, automatic trans builder and full time auto mechanic
